Brilliant Black Minds

Brilliant black minds

develop the branding for karat’s flagship program, brilliant black minds.

OVERVIEW

In the wake of Black Lives Matter, Karat developed a flagship purpose program to empower the next generation of Black software engineers. I was brought on to develop the visual identity and collaborate with the VP of Comms on brand foundations. Every visual element was meant to tell a story of “brilliance”.

brilliant swag

I designed swag that would make everyone feel as brilliant as they are. And yes that is Serena Williams 🎾

“Auras” are used to compliment Karat’s signature forest green color, and distinguish Brilliant Black Minds from the parent brand. The brand tone is more youthful and bold, compared to Karat’s more mature B2B tone.

The Interview Access Gap report

I designed Karat’s premiere research report that surveyed 300 Black computer science students highlights the importance of access to computers, exposure to the technology industry, and interview practice. The report needed to appeal to Karat’s B2B audience, and push the visual boundaries using Brilliant Black Mind’s style under an aggressive and timely time-frame.
